After two years of construction, Fujian Children’s Library will officially open on Sept 26. It will become an important cultural platform through which teenagers in Fujian can get access to science and exchange their talents and skills.
The Fujian Children’s Library project is a key project for Fujian province. With an overall area of 18,000 square meters, it is located at the busy Dongjiekou and adjacent to the Fuzhou No. 1 Secondary School. Immediately after the completion of the principal part of the Fujian Children’s Library, it became a new landmark building of Fuzhou and many citizens were attracted by the colorful building.
The architectural form of the library is a combination between the creative ideas from children’s blocks and modern architectural geometric shapes. The designer was also inspired by the Nation Stadium in Beijing -- The Bird’s Nest -- and applied many of its architectural design elements to the building, which had never been used in Fujian before.
The new library uses semi-saturated orange, yellow and blue perforated steel plates to harmonize and unify the colors of all architectural forms.
On Sept 13, books were put on the shelves in some reading rooms. Among the one million books, there are excellent ancient and modern children’s books from home and abroad. The new library will also become the children’s second classroom. Children may make handiworks and play animation games there. They may also show their personal talents and skills, including holding painting, calligraphy or handiwork exhibitions, or organizing talent and skill performances.
