A cross-Straits folk culture festival opened at Minjiang River Park, in the city of Fuzhou, capital of Fujian province, on Feb 12, with 26 programs, various handcrafts and varieties of foods on display, Fuzhou Daily has reported.

The display covers both Fuzhou and Taiwan folk arts, with around 20 performances that got off to a start right after the brief opening ceremony, as a display of Fuzhou's historical and cultural roots and deep ties with Taiwan.

There was a parade with 21 groups, of nearly 1,000 people, the highlight of the festival. There was also a poetry reading, with 120 people from both sides of the Straits, to impress the local people. Huang Zhiqiang, head of an electro music group from Taiwan, said that his group often comes to Fuzhou and look forward to further communicate with Fuzhou's artists. The traditional Taiwanese foods on offer also got a lot of praise from the local people.
