Fujian government has approved the Executive Plan on the Integration of Management System of Fuzhou and Ningde Ports, sources with the Communications and Transportation Department of Fujian province.
The. Fuzhou port and Ningde port will be integrated and renamed as Fuzhou port. Nine zones are included, compared with one port plus four zones before. It is learned that the integration of Fuzhou port and Ningde port will be completed in the 3rd quarter this year.
"Our province has abundance of port resources and the coastline is as long as 3,752 kilometers. So, we enjoy most coastline resources to build ultra-large deepwater wharf of 200,000 tons and above", said the one in charge of the provincial communications and transportation department. In the past, undeveloped planning for coastal harbors and internal competition, etc seriously restricted the ports’ development.
The integration of Fuzhou port and Ningde port is of great significance to fully make use of the port resources. The orientation and targets of new Fuzhou port will be enhanced. On the strength of sophisticated comprehensive communications and transportation system within the area and the dominant position as one of national hubs of communications, the new Fuzhou port will be developing to be an international shipping terminal port that focuses on containers and large break bulk cargo shipment, so as to serve social and economic development in the Midwest regions, Fuzhou, Ningde and Pingtan.
Meanwhile, the high end port industry at the mouth of Minjiang and Sanduao will be given an impetus, thus becoming an important portal for the reforms and opening up of Western Taiwan Straits Economic Zone.
